Persona 5 which was originally set to release sometime in 2015 has been delayed to 2016. I like many other fans of the persona series, was looking forward to playing the game this year. I became a fan of the Persona games just last year, I started with Persona 4 Golden and after sinking 103 hours into that game, I went back and completed Persona 3 FES which was excellent. I have also played Persona 4 Arena and Arena Ultimax, both my favorite fighting games to date. I’m not upset over Persona 5 being delayed, I’m sure Atlus will use the extra time to improve the game, and ultimately they will deliver the game that fans have been waiting for.

A trailer for Persona 5 was also released for Tokyo Game Show, the trailer looks amazing! The Anime cut scenes look beautiful, and I personally can’t wait for the game to release. Additionally an Anime special was announced for Persona 5, no specific details were given on the time-frame for release. I’ll include links down below to the Persona 5 trailer and the Persona 5 opening.

Atlus Facebook Statement

There’s no easy way to say it, so we’ll be blunt. Persona 5 will not release in 2015. The next numbered entry of the Persona franchise will now release in Japan and the Americas in 2016.
The strengths of the Persona series are compelling characters, a moving, relatable story, and a borderline obsession with minutiae – elements which can’t be rushed or taken lightly. So while ATLUS realizes the frustration and disappointment that this must cause for the JRPG-loving public, please know that we are delaying the game in order to make sure the next iteration of the Persona series lives up to the expectations of fans.
Persona 5 will be released in 2016 exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

  1. I had a feeling this game wouldn’t come out in 2015 so I am not too disappointed by the delay. Hopefully Europe will get the game in 2016 too. With Atlus you can never tell – they seem to hate my region.

    • I had high hopes that it would release in 2015 since Atlus stated a few times that it would indeed release this year, but overall I don’t feel disappointed over the delay. If a game needs to be delayed in order to improve it, then I’m all for that 🙂 I feel that Persona 5 should have a joint release date with North America and Europe since oftentimes Europe gets certain games way after releasing in other countries, hopefully Atlus will make sure Europe gets it in a reasonable time frame.

      • I’m not optimistic about that. It took over year after coming out in America for Europe to get Shin Megami Tensei IV. They only sold it as a digital download too.

  2. Man, a one year wait for a game is horrible. I don’t understand why fans in Europe have to wait so much longer in order to get some games. The Persona games sell really well in Europe, so it would be logical for them to release P5 in Europe and North America at the same time, or even release it in Europe first. I just hope they release it in Europe in a timely manner. I know some people in Europe that import games from North America when they release, though that can be expensive with shipping costs, so it’s not viable for everyone.
